So I guess the next question is why won't VMware recognize the floppy drive? The choice for floppy when selecting is just, which is *not* auto-detecting the USB-connected floppy drive A.Guide: Install Windows 8 as a virtual machine with VMware And I don't think that will work anyway, because the floppy-based W95 Setup writes to floppy Disk 2. But I was really hoping that I don't have to create 13 CDs from the 13 floppies. But I went the CD route because VMware doesn't seem to like my USB connected floppy drive, so I decided to do everything via CD. My guess is that it wants a Disk 1 (floppy), not the CD, because the boot CD was created from a floppy. When I remove the boot CD (created from a floppy) and put in the W95 CD, Setup keeps asking for Disk 1 or the CD - it does not recognize that the W95 CD *is* in the drive. It asks for Disk 1 (floppy) or the CD-ROM. I was able to format it and do a DIR on it - thanks for that idea! The bad news is that Setup doesn't want to install from the W95 CD. The good news is that the 1GB HDD is recognized.
